BCCI Gives IPL Teams Two Extra Days as Retention Deadline Moves to November 17

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has given its ten IPL franchises two extra days to finalise their player-retention lists. In a communique sent to the teams on Monday, November 2, the board confirmed the new deadline is November 17, moving it back from the original date of November 15. The extension was prompted by the fifth and final ODI between India and New Zealand, which is scheduled for that same November 15 date at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The date and venue of the IPL mini-auction remain unchanged, with the event still set for Goa on December 16. Player registration has already opened, having begun on Monday, November 2, and franchises now have until Tuesday, November 17 to complete their retention and release process. The registration window itself will close on November 23, and the final auction register, including the player sets, is due to be released on December 3. The calendar around the auction is busy for Indian cricket. India are also scheduled to host Sri Lanka in the second match of a series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on the day of the auction itself. For franchises, the extra two days offer a little more breathing room to weigh up their squads before the lists are locked in and attention turns fully to Goa.
