Angeli's Last-Gasp Strike Stuns No. 19 SMU as Syracuse Wins 30-27
Steve Angeli found Noah Meyers for a 2-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left, capping an 11-play, 68-yard drive as Syracuse upset No. 19 SMU 30-27 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday.

Syracuse delivered the second late escape in as many weeks, and this one knocked off a ranked opponent. Quarterback Steve Angeli hit tight end Noah Meyers on a 2-yard scoring pass with 17 seconds remaining, lifting the Orange to a 30-27 upset of No. 19 SMU on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome. The winning march started at Syracuse's own 32-yard line with 3:36 to play and the Orange trailing 27-23. Angeli went 7-of-8 on the drive, including back-to-back 15-yard completions to Calvin Russell III and Daunte Bacheyie that moved the ball to the 2. After a timeout, Angeli faked a handoff, rolled out, and found Meyers open in the left side of the end zone for the go-ahead score. Syracuse then sealed the win by forcing a fumble from SMU's Randy Pittman Jr. on the final play. Angeli, playing his second game back after missing three contests, finished 21-of-34 for 200 yards and also opened the scoring with a 26-yard touchdown run. SMU had seized a 27-20 lead with 9:04 left on Kendrick Raphael's touchdown and two-point conversion, but Tripp Woody's third field goal of the day pulled Syracuse within four and set up the finish. Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns in defeat. The win, Syracuse's first over a ranked team since November 30, 2024, lifted the Orange to 4-4 and dropped SMU to 6-2.
