Alcaraz Crushes De Minaur to Win First Vienna Title

Carlos Alcaraz won the Vienna Open for the first time on Sunday, beating Alex de Minaur 6-1 6-4 in a final that underlined his dominance of the European indoor swing. The 23-year-old Spaniard broke serve in the opening game, raced through the first set in 37 minutes, and held off a more competitive second set to close out victory in around 97 minutes at the Wiener Stadthalle. The title is Alcaraz's fourth of 2026, following his Australian Open triumph and wins in Doha and Tokyo, and the 28th of his career. He did not drop a set in any of his five matches in Vienna, completing a perfect 16-0 record at ATP 500 events this season and extending his winning streak at that level to 26 matches. It was also his seventh straight win over De Minaur. De Minaur, who reached the final by beating new world number one Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, hit 79 percent of his first serves but won just 48 percent of those points as Alcaraz repeatedly punished short balls. The Australian's run keeps him firmly in the race for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin, an event Alcaraz has already qualified for, and the champion now heads to next week's Paris Masters full of confidence after a season interrupted by more than four months out with a wrist injury.
