Pedro Acosta won a chaotic Malaysian MotoGP Sprint at Sepang on Saturday, holding off championship leader Marc Marquez by 0.578 seconds in a race shaped by rain, crashes and a four-way fight for the win. Pole-sitter Alex Marquez led uncontested for the opening laps before sliding out at Turn 14, handing the lead to Ai Ogura, with Acosta and Marc Marquez in pursuit. As light rain began to fall, Acosta timed his move perfectly, passing Ogura in the closing stages and holding on for his second Sprint victory of the season. Marc Marquez, who had been shuffled back to fourth early on, fought his way past Ogura and then Marco Bezzecchi, who completed the podium in third, to take second. The result was arguably more valuable for Marquez than for the winner: with title rival Jorge Martin absent after withdrawing from the weekend with a wrist injury, his lead grew to 19 points over the Aprilia rider and 52 over Bezzecchi. Acosta's win, meanwhile, confirmed his return to form at exactly the right time, and sets up a fascinating full-length Grand Prix on Sunday, when tyre choice and changing conditions could again decide the race.
